NA’s Upper Tamakoshi security base buried

KATHMANDU: Landslides resulting from incessant rainfall yesterday buried the Nepali Army base at Lamabagar VDC of Dolakha.

Bard Bahadur Battalion was set up for security of the under-construction 456MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project at Lamabagar VDC of Dolakha.

The NA on Tuesday confirmed that nine soldiers were injured while fleeing the landslide. They have been discharged after treatment.

Some vital infrastructure of the security base, including three bunkers, officer’s mess and operation room as well as food store room have been buried.

The troops at the site managed to shift weapons to safer places, according to NA Spokesperson Jagadish Chandra Pokhrel.

Explosives kept in the bunkers for construction of the ongoing project were buried. This caused major explosions leading to extensive damage to the doors and windows of the NA base, office buildings of the project and houses of local people.

A four-member engineering task force was deployed to the site to take stock of the damage and come up with needful steps to repair damaged physical property, Pokhrel said.
