Elderly gored to death

NAWALPARASI: An elderly was killed on Monday morning in Kumarbarti-1, Gorsati, after he was attacked by rhinos that entered the village from the Chitwan National Park. According to Nirajan Mahato, a local teacher, three rhinos that entered the village from the park had attacked 60-year old Agnidhar Sigdel killing him on the spot. Sigdel was attacked while he was bringing water from a nearby tap in the morning. Teacher Mahato said that the villagers have been terrified after the incident. The villagers lament that the rhinos from the park have always been terrifying them. Ten days ago, a woman was killed in a similar attack in Daladale.

Journalist assaulted

Siraha: Police assaulted local journalist Santosh Subedi last night for no apparent reason. Subedi was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at Ram Kumar Uma Prasad Memorial Hospital in Lahan. Subedi, who had gone to the main street in front of his house where a dispute was going on, was beaten up by security personnel. Issuing press releases, local chapters of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Nepal Press Union and Press Chautari have condemned the attack on journalist Subedi. Terming the attack a regrettable incident, they have also demanded stern action against the culprits and funds for treatment of the journalist.
