Bus set ablaze
KATHMANDU: Irate locals at Chabahil on Sunday set ablaze a bus belonging to Swoyambhu Yatayat after it hit and injured Kamala Acharya, 68, hailing from Jorpati- 2. Acharya, who was rushed to Om Hospital for treatment was discharged later on the day. The police, however, took hold of the situation and doused the fire. The bus has been handed over to Metropolitan Traffic Police. Police also took the bus driver into custody for interrogation.
Garbage collection on
KATHMANDU: Police personnel on Sunday continued collecting garbage dumped on the streets of the Kathmandu valley. Armed Police Force collected some 12 trucks of garbage from Panipokhari, Maharajgunj, Basundhara, Maitidevi and Balaju area. The garbage collection in the Valley had come to a grinding halt owing to protest of local body employees' unions since January 21. The protesters have been demanding for trade union rights, permanent status for temporary employees and facilities on par with civil servants.
Man found dead
KATHMANDU: A man in his 30s has been found dead at Chhapro in Pepsi Cola area in Kathmandu on Sunday morning. His identity was not immediately known, police said. The dead body was found lying on a field.—HNS
Properties gutted
KATHMANDU: Properties worth at least Rs 20 lakh in a shop was gutted in fire at Piyukha. A shop owned by Shiva Bhagat, hailing from Swoyambhu of Kathmandu had caught the fire on Saturday evening. The police and the locals had taken the fire under control. An electric short-circuit had caused the fire, the police said.
Assailant held
KATHMANDU: Police on Sunday arrested Suraj Shrestha, 20 hailing from Satyadevi in Kathmandu for attacking three persons with a knife. According to police, he had attacked them at Ashoka Hotel in Dakshinkali- 3 on Saturday. The injured are undergoing treatment at Manmohan Memorial Community Hospital in Pharping.
