Philatelic exhibition

KATHMANDU: Nepal will take part in the world philatelic exhibition -- philanippon -- to be held in Yokohama in Japan in 2011. Senior philatelist Shyam Prasad Pradhan has been appointed the national commissioner for the exhibition, the Nepal Philatelic Society said. Old stamps, postal items and various other collections Nepal will be kept on display.

Insecure school shut

TAPLEJUNG: The Chinabung Primary School has closed indefinitely citing security reasons, after a local tried to attack the school's principal. Principal of the school, Chattra Sigdel, has come to the headquarters demanding security. Taking over the issue of the parents, local Sancha Kumar Limbu vandalised his house, according to Sigdel. Sigdel said the school will not open unless the government guaranteed security.

Locals’ night patrol

CHITWAN: Locals of Kalyanpur Harinagar in Chitwan have begun night patrolling after a rise in criminal activities. The area has recorded a rise in theft, including that of fish and poultry, of late. We have decided to protect ourselves after the police failed to do say, a local said.

Elephantitis surge

DHADING: A total of 1829 people in Dhading suffer from elephantitis, the District Public Health Office has said. Of the 1,829 patients, 387 suffer from swelling of the legs, 1,318 from hydrocele and 224 suffer from swelling of different body parts, health officer Ram Narayan Poudel said. He said the DPHO plans to distribute medicines to needy people.
