National flag unfurled in Suryagadhi

NUWAKOT: Nepal's national flag was unfurled at the Surgyagadhi military fortress, the scene of a historic war between Tibet and Nepal.

The Nepali Gurkha soldiers fought with the Tibetan army for four years since 1788 and ultimately achieved victory. With an aim to conserve the fortress and promote tourism, a 10-feet long flag was unfurled.

Local Development Officer Keshar Bahadur Pandit unfurled the flag in Suryagadhi Rural Municipality-3 amid a function organised by Suryagadhi Tourism Development Committee. Pandit took the opportunity to call for conservation of all military fortresses in Nepal including Suryagadhi in order to keep alive the success and contribution of the Nepali people.

At the programme, the Rural Municipality Chair Shanta Bahadur Ghale pledged to take the initiative in mustering support for construction of a local route and conservation of old structures.
