NIC chief stresses promoting RTI

Chitwan, June 22

National Information Commission Chief Krishnahari Baskota today said that information commissions should be set up in all seven provinces.

Speaking at an interaction organised by Federation of Nepali Journalists and National Information Commission in Bharatpur, Baskota held that setting up information commissions in all levels of government would make people’s representatives accountable to the people. “To ensure the right to information, information commissions should be set up at all seven provinces,” Baskota said.

According to Baskota, only 30 per cent of government offices were making their information accessible to the public. He stressed the need to promote people’s right to information. FNJ central vice-chair Bipul Pokhrel said he right to information was democratic right.
