National Youth Council Bill approved

KATHMANDU: The Legislature-Parliament today passed the National Youth Council Bill, 2072 with majority votes.

Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Paudel had tabled the Bill at the Parliament meeting, seeking its endorsement.

Earlier, Minister Paudel had answered queries raised by the lawmakers regarding the Bill.

On the occasion, he informed that the Bill has aimed to create employment for youths within the country, inspire Nepali youths working abroad to return and involve them in the nation building campaign.

"As the Bill has come with ample deliberations in the concerned parliamentary committee, I do not see the need of amendment on it," the Minister said.

However, lawmakers including Prem Suwal, Atahar Kamal Musalman and Mina Pun said although the National Youth Council was the need of the day, there were some shortcomings in the Bill.

Preparations for the Bill were initiated after the Legislature-Parliament took a decision on it on August 18, 2014.

As per the Bill, the National Youth Council will have the Minister for Youth and Sports or the State Minister as its Chairperson, while the one appointed by the government the Vice-chairperson.

Secretaries from various ministries and the National Planning Commission will be there in the board.

The Council will have youths from diverse sectors and backgrounds as members.

The Legislature-Parliament will meet next on Monday at 11:00 am.
