NC CC members demand transparency

KATHMANDU: Central committee members of the Nepali Congress today suggested the party leadership to make the process of issuing active membership of the party activists transparent.

The ongoing Central Committee (CC) meeting today mandated CC officials to prepare a single time table for holding conventions at all levels — district, metropolitan and village committees of the party — at the same time, said CC member Govinda Raj Joshi. They will have to table the proposed time table at another meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

“The party leaders have almost reached consensus on how the active membership will be issued, as per which the committees at all the levels will propose names for active membership and district committees will approve the recommendations made by the area committees,” informed Joshi.

CC members, including Narahari Acharya, today demanded to cancel the forms distributed in some districts haphazardly without following due process. While the NC CC officials said that an investigation was needed to look into the process.

The CC is likely to take a final decision on the contentious issues related to active membership in tomorrow's meeting, according to party sources. The CC meeting will also initiate discussion on the party's revised statute drafted by a committee headed by its leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
