NC-D leaders meet Deuba, Singh

Kathmandu, July 18:
A team of central leaders of the Nepali Congress-Democratic, led by the party’s acting president, Gopal Man Shrestha, today met party president and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and former minister Prakash Man Singh at a detention centre at Police Training Academy, Maharajgunj. Deuba and Singh are under detention on the order of the Royal Commission for Control of Corruption (RCCC) on charges of corruption on the Melamchi Drinking Water Project (MDWP). During the meeting with the party leaders, Deuba and Singh thanked the seven-party alliance, human rights organisations, Nepal Bar Association, civil society and international community for recognising them as “prisoners of conscience” and raising voices for their immediate release. Deuba and Singh are learnt to have appealed the alliance, civil society and international community to continue their support for the formers’ stance on the commission.
