Kathmandu, July 21:

The Nepali Congress-Democratic today demanded immediate release of its party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and central working committee member Prakash Man Singh. Deuba and Singh are currently in custody after they refused to post a bail amount in the Melamchi Drinking Water Project (MDWP) access road case. NC-D acting president Gopal Man Shrestha said that since the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has said it has not found any evidence of irregularities in the project, it has become clear that the RCCC’s action against the leaders is a ploy to defame them. “The RCCC action is prejudiced,” Shrestha said. Labelling the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) as unconstitutional, the party has said it could be a conspiracy of “some elements” to fulfill their vested interest to scrap the project. The ADB yesterday said it did not find any irregularity in the procurement process leading to the award of the contract based on documentation that the ADB had reviewed.
