NC discusses future policy

Kathmandu, August 18:

The Policy and Programme Department of the Nepali Congress today held discussions on the party’s policies and programmes to be tabled during the 11th general convention scheduled to take place on August 30-September 4. The meeting was chaired by department chief Ram Chandra Poudel, who has been soliciting suggestions from the people from various walks of life about the party’s policies. NC spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC said the policies would be prepared in three or four days. President Girija Prasad Koirala, addressing a gathering of select leaders and cadres in his hometown,Biratnagar, on Tuesday, made it clear that the party would not change its stance on constitutional monarchy and current talk about a republican set up was meaningless. But there is a mounting pressure on the party leadership, especially from young generation, to drop the party’s stance on constitutional monarchy. Acharya has even suggested that the party remain ‘silent’ on the issue of monarchy and go for an election to a constituent assembly.
