NC to help address Madhesi concerns

Kathmandu, March 18

The first Central Working Committee meeting of the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, held following the party’s 13th National General Convention decided today to begin talks to address the concerns of Madhesis.

According to Bimalendra Nidhi, NC decided to hold talks with political parties, including the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front, to find solution to all the outstanding issues, including demarcation of provinces.

Nidhi said the NC decided to focus on implementing the new constitution after resolving the concerns being raised by the Madhes-based and other parties.

Pradip Poudel said today’s meeting decided to hold rigorous talks with the parties and take the initiative to resolve contentious issues and implement the constitution.

Thanking all for making NGC successful, Nidhi said CWC meeting also decided to form a three-member election committee led by Ramesh Rijal with Surendra Pandey and Guru Ghimire as members for the election of the Parliamentary Party Leader and its working committee.

He said the meeting also decided to complete the conventions of all the party’s sister wings, including Nepal Students Union, Tarun Dal, Women and Peasants’ Associations within six months.

CWC member Poudel said CWC meeting also decided to draw the government’s attention towards effective steps in favour of the earthquake victims.

He said the meeting decided to demand the government to end flourishing black market and artificial shortage of supplies and petroleum products despite the sufficient flow of supplies.

NC also decided to celebrate April 8 as people’s movement day.
