NC lawmakers demand regional identity

KATHMANDU:Nepali Congress lawmakers demanded that the identity of the different regions they represented be kept intact while carving out the federal states in the new constitution.

The NC CA members had made their demands at the four-day joint meeting of the party Central Committee and Constituent Assembly members that concluded today. Lawmakers of the hilly region demanded for a separate hilly province while the Tarai lawmakers demanded identity of their region while carving out the federal states.

According to central member Govinda Raj Joshi, lawmakers from Karnali and Tharu community had also demanded separate provinces. Earlier, the NC central committee had discussed on the draft of the state structure prepared by a party committee led by vice president Gopal Man Shrestha.

The NC will finalise its view on the state structure on the CC meet that will be held within few days, party leaders said.
