MORANG, MAY 1

Central member of the Nepali Congress Shekhar Koirala has said all local levels should be made friendly for workers. Nepali Congress is committed to ensuring the rights of workers, he said, adding that it respected labour.

Central member Koirala said this at a programme organised on the occasion of the 133rd International Labour Day at Hatthali bazaar near Biratnagar Mills today.

He made it clear that the ruling political parties had formed electoral alliance even at the local levels for the protection of the constitution and consolidation of democracy.

Koirala, however, said there would be healthy competition at the ward level as per the agreement with political parties.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress central member and former minister Bimalendra Nidhi also said the electoral alliance was made for the effective implementation of federalism and republic.

He reminded that the Nepali Congress had led the democratic movements since 1950 to 2006 and claimed that it would now secure victory at the local levels.

Other speakers Dila Sangraula, Amrit Aryal and Bhim Parajuli said industrial policies could be formulated with the participation of the private sector. "Creation of jobs is the need the hour," he added.

NC candidate for the post of mayor for Biratnagar metropolis Nagesh Koirala expressed commitment to reduce corruption to zero.
