NC names leaders for zonal trips
Kathmandu, September 19:
The Nepali Congress (NC) today picked up central leaders who will be going around 14 administrative zones in connection with organisational matters of the party and also to mobilise the party rank and file in the ongoing movement. The representatives to all the zones were chosen by the newly appointed General Secretary Ram Chandra Paudel. This is the first organisational duty performed by Paudel after he was appointed to the post on Saturday. Senior leader Bal Bahadur Rai will travel to Mechi while Paudel himself will be going to Koshi, the political fortress of the Koirala family. Dr Ram Baran Yadav has been asked to cover Sagarmatha while Bhim Bahadur Tamang will tour Janakpur. While Krishna Sitaula and Arjun Narsingh KC have been assigned the task in the Bagmati and Narayani zones, Mahesh Acharya and Mahanta Thakur have been asked to go to Gandaki and Dhaulagiri respectively.
Sujata Koirala, daughter of NC President Girija Prasad Koirala, will be sent to Lumbini, while another General Secretary Sushil Koirala will go to Bheri. While Dr Shashank Koirala, the youngest son of BP Koirala, has been asked to travel to Mahakali, Meena Pandey and Baldev Sharma Majgaiya will go to Seti and Karnali zones. This marks a transition from a phase which saw intense lobbying after the General Convention over who should be the general secretary and also the vice-president of the party. Meanwhile, Paudel said the act of sending representatives to the 14 administrative zones marked a beginning of the business following the General Convention. “ Yes, I had a talk with Girijababu and have apprised him of the need to start working. Naming the representatives was one of them.”
