NC stance on monarchy sought

Biratnagar, November 20:

A Nepali Congress (NC) leader, Dr Shekhar Koirala, today urged Prime Minister and NC president Girija Prasad Koirala to announce the party’s stance on monarchy public.

Speaking at a seminar, Dr Koirala said: “Party workers are confused as the high command has not come up with a clear stance on monarchy.”

Stating that the party’s stance on monarchy should be decided by calling either a general convention or a Mahasamati meeting, Dr Koirala said: “Or the party cadres will be visionless.”

“As the party’s view on monarchy is secular, it is natural for party workers to have differences of opinion on monarchy,” said Dr Koirala, adding: “But, if the situation remains static for long, it would be detrimental to the welfare of the party.”
