NC suggestion to CDC on poll constituencies
Kathmandu, March 29:
The Nepali Congress (NC) today suggested that the Constituency Delimitation Commission (CDC) delimit the election constituencies on the basis of the 2058 BS census.
The party also suggested the commission to “keep intact” or make no changes in the constituencies in the districts of the mountainous region.
“We have suggested the commission to increase the constituencies in the Tarai and some of the districts in the hills on the basis of population growth,” NC central working committee member Laxman Ghimire told this daily, adding that the decision was taken in a meeting of the party held today.
Ghimire said that the number of constituencies should be as minimum as possible.
Central member of the NC Arjun Narsingh KC said they suggested that there should not be any “drastic change” in the village development committees (VDCs) while delimiting or increasing the electoral constituencies in the Tarai. He said that the VDCs, DDCs and the wards in the municipalities should not be “dismantled”.
