NC to meet Madhesi lawmakers of all parties for resolution

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party Nepali Congress decided to hold discussions with Madhesi lawmakers affiliated with all parties in a bid to seek resolution to the current political crisis.

A meeting of the party's office bearers took the decision to this effect.

Likewise, the meeting reiterated that the government immediately take initiatives to endorse the Constitution Amendment Bill and the Bill on National Reconstruction Authority from the Parliament.

Both of the Bill were registered at the House by the erstwhile NC President Sushil Koirala-led government.

The party said it would also pile pressures from the Parliament on the government to endorse the Bills.

The party has been arguing that the Constitution Amendment Bill would address demands of agitating Madhes-based parties.

Meanwhile, the meeting urged the government not to revoke decisions of the past government related to various political appointments.

NC not to participate in ruling parties' talks

The meeting also decided that it would not take part in the talks to be held between the ruling parties' coalition and the protesting United Democratic Madhesi Front.

As the government coalition partners sit for talks representing the High Level Political Coordination Committee, a network of coalition members, it was not appropriate for the main opposition party to take part, according to the party.
