NC veep calls for political stability

Nepalgunj, September 30 :

Vice-president of the Nepali Congress (NC) Sushil Koirala has said that the seven-party alliance (SPA), CPN-Maoist and the government should take initiatives to establish lasting peace and political stability in the country by embracing the aspirations of the April Jana Andolan.

The NC leader, who arrived here today to attend a programme organised for families of flood victims of Banke district, told RSS that unity among the political parties was indispensable to make good use of the achievements of the Jana Andolan.

Stating that the peace talks between the government and the Maoists were heading towards a positive direction, he added that other issues would be gradually resolved after the weapons management issue is resolved.

In response to a query, Koirala noted that during his recent stay in foreign countries for medical treatment, the international community and Non-Resident Nepalis expressed deep concern over the ongoing political process in the country.

Stressing that the Maoists should give up their attachment to weapons in order to bring the various agreements into practice, Koirala said that the House of Representatives should not be dissolved before an alternative to it is found.

Responding to another query, he said that the efforts to unite the two Nepali Congress parties have reached the final stage.
