Nepal Bhawan to be built in Kolkata

KATHMANDU: A building named Nepal Bhawan is to be built in Kolkata, the capital of the Indian State of West Bengal, at the initiative of the Nepali Welfare Trust established by the India-Nepal People's Friendly Cultural Forum of Kolkata.

Forum's Kolkata branch's General-Secretary Raju Pathak shared that the construction of a separate building was in response to the need for facilitating relief and rescue operation among the Nepalis in Kolkata at the time of disaster, ill-fated accidents or difficulties.

"There has been no any such space in Kolkata where the Nepalis could take refuge at the time of difficulties," shared Pathak, adding that a fundraising Deusi Bhailo programme was recently organised among the Nepali community in Kolkata and its adjacent places during the Tihar festival for the construction of the building in the land purchased by the Nepalis residing in Kolkata.

Trust's Coordinator Khimraj Baral said that they would also seek support from the government of Nepal and India towards this end. Baral also requested the office of Consul General in Kolkata to take the lead for the construction of the Nepal Bhawan.

Nepali Consul General in Kolkata, Yek Narayan Aryal also pledged for needful efforts to secure support from the Nepali Embassy in Indian capital of New Delhi for the same.
