KATHMANDU: Nepal has been elected member of the executive board of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
Nepal has been elected to the board for the coming 2019-2021 term. This is the first time Nepal has made it to the UN Women since its establishment in 2010. Along with Nepal, other countries including India, Bangladesh, Mongolia and Saudi Arabia have also become members of the UN Women representing Asia-Pacific.
Likewise, Nepal has been elected member of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development for a three-year term. Other members from the Asia Pacific region include China, Thailand and Iran.
According to a press note released by the UN, Nepal received 52 votes cast by 54 members of the Coordination and Management Meeting of the Economic and Social Council.
