KATHMANDU, JUNE 2
The Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi has rescued 453 Nepali nationals, 115 women and 338 men, who had been lured into labour exploitation and networking fraud through social media in India's border areas, according to a press release issued by the embassy on Monday.
The rescue operation was carried out in coordination with the Uttar Pradesh Police, relevant Indian government agencies, and NGO KIN India across multiple locations in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The rescued individuals were handed over to the District Police Office, Rupandehi on May 30.
Of those rescued, 19 individuals, including six women, have been placed under investigation on suspicion of involvement in the fraud network. The District Police Office, Rupandehi is conducting further inquiries.
The embassy extended its gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh government, Uttar Pradesh Police, Nepal Police, KIN India, and all agencies that provided direct and indirect support during the operation.
The embassy reaffirmed the Nepal government's commitment to protecting Nepali nationals in India and urged all citizens to remain alert to fraudulent proposals made in the name of foreign employment and other inducements.
