Nepal heading for CA polls, says Pranab Mukherjee

New Delhi, February 16:

India has said that Nepal is moving ahead satisfactorily towards the CA election. Addressing a meeting of the parliament consultative committee on External Affairs on India’s relations with SAARC countries here yesterday, India’s External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said: “India’s conception about the CA election in Nepal is that things are progressing smoothly there.”

Spokesperson for India’s External Affairs Ministry Navtej Sarna made Mukherjee’s view public at a press conference here after the conclusion of the council meeting.

Stating that Nepal was going through a transitional period of creating new history, Mukherjee said India was ready to support Nepal in every way possible. “India has played a significant role in transforming Nepal into a democratic nation,” Mukherjee was quoted as saying. Spokesperson Sarna said that Mukherjee also expressed his views on relations between Nepal and India. “India always extends its hand for better political, economic and cultural relations with neighbouring countries,” Mukherjee was quoted as saying.

Mukherjee also enumerated India’s growing relations with countries like Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Pakistan, Myanmar and China in the council meeting, Sarna said.
