Nepal-India oversight mechanism meet today

Kathmandu, November 28

The first ever meeting of Nepal-India oversight mechanism is being held in Kathmandu tomorrow with the objective of expediting ongoing bilateral and joint-venture development projects in Nepal.

Foreign Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi will head the Nepali team, while Indian ambassador will lead Indian side.

South Asia Division head at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bhrigu Dhungana said that the meeting would try to find bottlenecks in the ongoing Nepal-India economic and development projects in the country.

Joint secretaries from relevant ministries including finance, commerce, physical infrastructure and transport, planning, home affairs, energy and irrigation are also taking part in the meeting.

From the Indian side, deputy chief of mission, economic cooperation counsellor and reconstruction counsellor will be present.

The oversight instrument was mooted during PM Dahal’s visit to India in mid-September in the wake of criticism that projects funded or pledged by India in Nepal had not been executed for many years.
