CHITWAN, APRIL 25
The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has launched the country's first-ever Safari Tourism Mart in Meghauli, aiming to position Nepal as a leading global destination for responsible wildlife tourism.
The inaugural Wild Nepal Safari Mart 2026, organised in coordination with local governments and tourism entrepreneurs, has brought together more than 30 international delegates from Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Turkey and Germany, along with conservation leaders and tourism stakeholders.
Addressing the opening session on April 24, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mukunda Prasad Niraula said the event would help elevate Nepal's wildlife tourism on the global stage and promote partnerships and investment.
Chief Executive Officer of NTB, Deepak Raj Joshi described the Mart as a milestone initiative, stressing the need for tourism that balances growth with environmental protection and community benefits. He highlighted Nepal's rich biodiversity, noting the presence of species such as Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinoceroses, snow leopards and red pandas.
NTB Vice Chairperson Ram Prasad Sapkota said the Mart serves as a platform to connect global buyers with local stakeholders and promote Nepal's authentic tourism experiences worldwide.
Acting Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitrasen Adhikari said the region is ready to emerge as a global wildlife tourism hub, with local governments committed to strengthening sustainable infrastructure and community engagement.
International conservationist Mohit Agrawal highlighted the growing global demand for responsible travel, stating that Nepal offers a strong model of balancing conservation and tourism through community-led approaches.
The event also featured presentations by conservation experts and representatives from protected areas including Chitwan National Park, Shuklaphanta National Park and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.
Alongside business-to-business meetings and field visits, delegates experienced local culture through traditional Tharu and Kumal performances.
Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen Nepal's position in the global wildlife tourism market while promoting sustainable, year-round tourism products.
