KATHMANDU, JULY 13

The Consulate General of Nepal in New York organized an interaction and networking event on July 11 to promote Nepal as a travel destination among US visitors. The event was held in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) New York Chapter.

Speaking on the occassion, Consul General Dadhiram Bhandari highlighted the growing role of American tourists visiting Nepal and stressed the importance of branding Nepal's natural and cultural assets to attract high-end travelers.

Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, said that tourism is a priority economic sector for Nepal and urged collaborative efforts to promote the country internationally.

Travel writer and producer Erin Levi, whose article on Bardia's Burhan Wilderness Camp was featured in TIME's World's Greatest Places of 2024, described Nepal as a safe destination for visitors of all ages and genders.

Nishchal Banskota of Nepal Tea Collective shared his efforts to promote "Immersive Tea Tourism" by bringing groups of American visitors to tea estates in eastern Nepal.

Elizabeth Chin, Executive Director of PATA New York Chapter, emphasized the need for joint collaboration to promote Nepal among US tourists. Her team encouraged participants to consider Nepal as a preferred destination.

The Consulate General also made a visual presentation using NTB promotional materials. The Consul General said American visitors contribute significantly to Nepal's tourism industry by spending more and staying longer.

Over fifty participants from the tourism and hospitality sectors, Nepali entrepreneurs, and media professionals attended the program. Nepali cuisine and local gift items were also presented to the guests.
