Nepal seeks action against rapists

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay has demanded thorough investigation and stern action against the alleged rapists of the two Nepali women. Though Indian media portrayed the victims as mother and daughter, the Embassy of Nepal has stated that one of them hails from Baglung and the other from Morang district. “They are not biological mother and daughter,” an Embassy official told THT over phone. The Embassy of Nepal, on a tip-off from an NGO, Maiti India, wrote to Indian Ministry of External Affairs about the plight of the women, based on which Haryana Police rescued them, Tirtha Raj Wagle, Political Counsellor of Nepal Embassy, told THT.
