The Covid-19 caseload reached 368,580 as the country surpassed its previous intraday case record, registering over 8,000 infections yet again.
Nepal set a daily record for new cases for the fifth day straight after PCR tests confirmed 8,970 Covid positives while 100 tested positive in antigen tests conducted in the past 24 hours. As such, total infections from both RT-PCR and antigen tests added up to 9,070 today.
With the latest additions, the country wide Covid-19 mortality toll stands at 3,529 with 54 fatalities recorded today.
Of the total new cases in the country, Kathmandu district reported 3,163 infections while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur registered 567 and 242 infections respectively.
Both new infections and deaths have risen sharply after Nepal logged Covid-19 cases in four digits on April 18.
According to the health ministry, 21,142 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 20,367 were PCR tests while 775 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,578,418 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.
Likewise, 2,707 people who were earlier infected with the virus have been discharged in the past 24 hours as per the latest data provided by health ministry. As of today, 292,490 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate from the disease declines to 79.4 per cent.
Nepal's active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 72,561.
Currently, there are 314 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.
On Wednesday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 359,610 with 8,605 newly confirmed cases.
Globally, over 155 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.2 million people have lost their lives to the disease. Likewise, over 133 million people have recovered while more than 19 million cases are still active.
