KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 3
The Chinese government has announced a grant of 500 million RMB, equivalent to 9 billion Nepali rupees, for Nepal.
During a meeting today between visiting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Xi confirmed the grant assistance, according to Joint Secretary Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Spokesperson for Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting, described as cordial, included detailed discussions on bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest.
President Xi highlighted the longstanding friendship and strong ties between Nepal and China, emphasizing that their relationship is rooted in mutual respect, harmony, and cooperation.
He reiterated China's commitment to supporting Nepal's development and prosperity, expressing readiness to import Nepali goods into the Chinese market and encouraging Chinese investors to explore opportunities in Nepal.
Prime Minister Oli, in turn, reaffirmed the foundation of Nepal-China relations as being based on the principles of Panchsheel, mutual equality, understanding, and trust. He extended an invitation to President Xi to visit Nepal in 2025 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
President Xi expressed gratitude for the invitation and assured that he would visit at an appropriate time.
Prime Minister Oli also praised China's rapid progress in development and poverty alleviation, noting it as a model of inspiration. He underscored his government's focus on economic transformation under the national vision of a Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis, and called for enhanced cooperation and partnership with China in Nepal's development initiatives.
Additionally, Prime Minister Oli held a meeting with Li Zhanshu, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China. The discussion focused on the exchange of experiences in parliamentary practices, as per the Prime Minister's Secretariat.
Prime Minister Oli is currently on the second day of his four-day official visit to the People's Republic of China.
