Nepal urges govt not to defer CA polls
Kavre, March 24:
General secretary of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, today urged the government not to make a mistake by deferring the CA polls. Inaugurating the third conference of the CPN-UML in Panauti municipality, Nepal said: “The rulers were not guided to hold the CA polls in 2007 BS; the situation might repeat itself.”
He stressed the need for adopting restraint while inducting the Maoists into the interim government.
Nepal said: “An interim government should be formed and the date for the CA polls announced early.” He alleged that those parties which had failed to win people’s hearts were playing games to put off the CA polls. “As democracy is not sufficient to provide security to the people and maintain law and order, it is necessary to establish a republic,” Nepal said.
Polls by mid-June impossible: Yadav
Rupandehi: Deputy Speaker Chitralekha Yadav said on Saturday that it will be impossible to hold CA polls by mid-June. Yadav said peace cannot be established and formation of an inclusive society would be impossible if CA polls are conducted without preparation. She said the polls cannot be held until there is a guarantee of participants’ security. She said it would not go down well with the people if the government banned the MJF or took action against it. Yadav regretted that the government was taking lightly issues raised by the MJF and that ruling parties were not seriously discussing the demand for Home Minister Sitaula’s resignation. — HNS
