KATHMANDU, MAY 24
Three senior officials of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) have been elected to key commissions of the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA), further consolidating Nepal's representation in the global mountaineering governance structure.
The appointments were confirmed during the Spring Meeting of the UIAA Management Board, according to an NMA press release dated May 21.
Rajendra Bahadur Lama, General Secretary of NMA, has been elected as a Full Member of the UIAA Mountaineering Commission, a role that carries voting rights and the mandate to represent Nepal on matters concerning the commission. Lama also serves as a former board member of Nepal Tourism Board.
Iswari Paudel, Senior Vice President of NMA, has been elected as a Commission Member of the UIAA Mountain Protection Commission. Gokul Thapa, Secretariat Member of NMA, has similarly been elected as a Commission Member of the UIAA Mountaineering Commission.
NMA President Fur Gelje Sherpa said the association believes the election of its senior representatives to these commissions will further enhance Nepal's contribution to global mountaineering, mountain protection, and policy development. The NMA has long been an active UIAA member, consistently participating in its General Assemblies and contributing expert views on mountaineering-related issues at the international level.
Nepal Tourism Board also extended congratulations to the three officials, calling them exceptional leaders elected to key international positions.
