Nepalgunj grapples with worsening law and order

Nepalgunj, March 25:

Following a series of blasts for the last 10 days, a sense of insecurity has gripped Nepalgunj folks.

Though large number of security personnel has been mobilised in the town, commoners have not felt secure. The fear among government employees and service seekers was heightened after a powerful blast in Bheri Zonal Transport Management Office on Monday.

The regional office of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Nepalgunj has expressed serious concern about security situation in the town. Issuing a press release today, regional director of NHRC Bed Bhattarai urged the government to ensure effective security of Nepalgunj

folks, ascertain the rights of people to live in peaceful environment, and investigate the blasts and take action against the guilty. The NHRC also urged all to shun violence.

In Monday’s blast, a cadre of All Tarai Mukti Morcha was killed. Last week, Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Tuphan Group) had exploded bombs in the offices of Unified CPN-Maoist and the Nepali Congress.

Monday’s explosion also caused damages to the transport office.

Soon after Monday’s blast, regional in-charge of the ATMM Dangi Sharan Chhetri (Prajjwol) claimed the bomb was detonated to draw government’s attention to their demands. He said the explosion was meant to warn the government against collecting revenues from the Tarai region.

Similarly, cases of forceful donation collection have also gone of in Nepalgunj for past few days, leaving the business community terrorised.
