Nepalgunj shuts for half a day

Nepalgunj, November 26 :

Protesting the government’s decision to shift all regional offices to Surkhet from Nepalgunj, business institutions in Nepalgunj bazaar downed shutters for half a day today. The King, during his visit to Kohalpur, had said departmental action would be taken against authorities if they fail to shift the regional offices to Surkhet within three months. While the three months has already expired, the offices are being shifted curently. Locals of Nepalgunj had launched a movement, Nepalgunj Protection Campaign (NPC), opposing the government’s decision. Today, they successfully organised a protest rally and closed the market.

The entire Nepalgunj town remained closed until 1 pm. As today was also a Saturday, the town wore a deserted look. Addressing a meeting organised after the protest rally, central member of the Janmorcha, IP Kharel, said the people of Nepalgunj would continue the movement against the decision to shift the regional offices. On the occasion, freedom fighter Pannalal Gupta and member-secretary of NPC Ashok Karmacharya also urged the government

to let the regional offices remain in Nepalgunj.
