KATHMANDU, JULY 1

The Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has conferred the 2026 religious title of "Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja" on Most Venerable Khenpo Chimed Tsering (Dr. Lharkyal Lama) in recognition of his contributions to Buddhism.

The title and its insignia were presented by Myanmar's Ambassador to Nepal, U Thant Sin, at a ceremony held at Ngagyur Palyul Ling Monastery in Kathmandu on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador U Thant Sin highlighted the significance of the religious title and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Myanmar and Nepal in promoting and preserving the Buddha Sasana. He also congratulated Khenpo Chimed Tsering on receiving the honour.

The ceremony also featured congratulatory remarks by Bhante Anand, General Secretary of the Maha Bodhi Society; Tulku Sherab Sangpo Rinpoche; Dr. Karma Phuntsok; and Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal Ruwanthi Delpitiya. Khenpo Chimed Tsering expressed his gratitude after receiving the title.

More than 200 guests attended the event, including diplomats from Sri Lanka, India and the United States, Buddhist monks and nuns, officials of the Lumbini Development Trust, staff of the Myanmar Embassy and other invited guests.

Khenpo Chimed Tsering previously served as Vice Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust and currently heads the Ngagyur Palyul Ling Monastery. He continues to work for the development of the Lumbini region and the promotion of Buddhist teachings.
