NC, UML major contenders in Byash Municipality
- Congress won most of the seats in the past two local polls while CPN-UML is deemed the main rival this year

As the deadline for the May 14 civic poll draws close, candidates from different political parties running for various posts are busy canvassing for votes in Tanahun.
Candidates fighting for the posts of mayor, deputy mayor, chairpersons of different wards at Byash Municipality are engaged in door-to-door campaigning.
NC’s Baikuntha Neupane and CPN-UML’s Shankar Narayan Shrestha are running for the post of mayor in Byash. The race between the two is expected to be tough.
Nepali Congress won most of the seats in the past two local level polls. CPN-UML is deemed the main rival of the NC in the district.
In Byash, CPN-Maoist Centre will support UML’s Shankar Narayan Shrestha and UML will throw its weight behind the Maoist centre’s deputy mayoral candidate Keshari Neupane.
Nepali Congress cadres and leaders claimed that Nepali Congress would secure victory in the mayoral and deputy mayoral this time as well.
UML candidate Shrestha, however, claimed that he would clinch victory.
A loyal lieutenant to Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel, Nepuane is considered a formidable candidate.
Making public their election manifestos, Neupane and Shrestha pledged to develop Byash into a model municipality.
Mira Joshi, deputy mayoral candidate of the NC and CPN-Maoist Centre’s Keshari Neupane are projected to have a tough race.
The election will be fought mainly between the Nepali Congress and UML candidates at 14 wards of the municipality.
