NC’s national convention to be postponed

Biratnagar, December 9

Nepali Congress General-Secretary Shashank Koirala said that NC’s next national convention would be postponed for a year owing to some internal reasons.

Talking to mediapersons briefly at Biratnagar airport, Morang, today, Koirala admitted various groups had supported the NC in the recently held by-election.

According to him, the results of the recently held by-election had reflected the situation that the NC was yet to be strong.

Stating that the NC was actively and positively playing the role of opposition in the government, Koirala clarified that the NC wanted to move ahead by being on board with the incumbent government.

Arguing that conflict of interest would not benefit anyone, he asserted the NC had adopted the path of consensus. He also pressed on the need for unity among all political parties in the country to safeguard the constitution and federalism. He also made it clear that instead of batting for secularism, he subscribed to the ideology that religion should be free.

He slammed the incumbent government for not delivering in keeping with the two-thirds mandate that it had.
