KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday filed his nomination at the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat for the post of Prime Minister.

The outgoing Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal proposed NC President Deuba’s name for the post of PM.

The candidacy was supported by NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, Nepal Democratic Forum Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, Prem Bahadur Singh of Samajbadi Janata Party, Kumar Khadka of Akhanda Nepal Party and Jayadev Joshi of CPN-United.

According to the election schedule, any lawmaker willing to contest for the post of prime minister will have to file his/her nomination between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm on Saturday. The secretariat will publish the final list of prime ministerial candidates on Saturday itself.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, the election for the new PM will take place in the Parliament meeting at 11:00 am tomorrow when the speaker will inform the House about the candidacy for the post of prime minister.

Thereafter, the proposer and the seconder of the prime ministerial candidate(s) will have a chance to speak in the Parliament before the election takes place.

The Secretariat had fixed a date for prime ministerial election a day after President Bidya Devi Bhandari called for the formation of a new government on the basis of majority.

Earlier, as per the agreement with the NC, PM Dahal resigned from his post on May 24, paving the way for the election of the new Prime Minister.
