NC Prez Deuba warns of House obstruction

Biratnagar, September 10

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today accused the incumbent government of trying to gag press freedom.

Talking to mediapersons at Biratnagar airport, Deuba alleged that the KP Oli-led government was hell-bent on muzzling press freedom.  “Since the formation of the communist government, everything has deteriorated in the country. The communist government is not bad, but the ploy to establish communist state is dangerous,” Deuba charged.

Deuba warned that his party would obstruct the Parliament if the government did not rectify its decision to gag the media and meddle with the judiciary and bureaucracy.

Deuba vented ire at the Media Council Bill tabled in the Parliament by the government. “The bill bars journalists from writing independently and fairly,” he said.

In the Supreme Court verdict on NCell tax issue, Deuba said that he was yet to study the verdict. He argued that it was not good to impeach justices. “Instead of impeaching justices, the case ought to be reviewed,” Deuba added.
