NC to form panel to probe election loss

Kathmandu, December 31

The Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today said he would soon constitute a high-level investigation committee to probe the party’s crushing defeat in the recent  elections.

He also urged party cadres and supporters not to get demoralised.

Acknowledging that the party fared badly in the first-past-the post electoral system due to the alliance between two big communist parties, PM Deuba said there was no need to be disappointed as the party’s performance was better in the proportional representation electoral system.

“One of the reasons we lost the elections was betrayal. The probe committee will investigate cases of betrayal and the party will take action against those involved as per the findings of the committee,” he said at an event organised here by the Nepal Students Union on the occasion of Reconciliation Day.

NC youth leader Bishwa Prakash Sharma said the party should now move ahead united leaving behind the bitterness of the past. “I want to appeal to all to be united and committed to make the NC a modern political force,” he said, adding, “The party should soon convene a meeting of the Central Working Committee.”
