Deuba inspects disaster-hit areas in Rautahat
Rautahat, July 17
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today inspected flood-hit areas in Rautahat.
Deuba inspected the area inundated by flood water after Bagmati’s embankment was breached at Laxmipur of Gadhimai Municipality.
Observing the flood-ravaged area, Deuba said all agendas would have to be put forth in the Parliament and all parties and lawmakers should commit to providing assistance to flood victims in the Tarai.
Deuba flayed the government for adjourning the Parliament even when the NC had tabled the proposal for discussing support to the flood victims. He accused the government of showing negligence to the plight of flood victims. Deuba also flayed the Madhes-centric parties for betraying people for a long time. “Madhes parties projected themselves as messiahs of Madhesis during polls. But, they are turning a blind eye to the problem of flood victims now,” he said.
Deuba said the government harboured the arrogance of a two-thirds majority and did nothing to unite opposition parties to provide helping hands to flood victims.
Deuba said the NC’s federal and provincial lawmakers would donate five and ten days’ salary to the victims respectively. He pledged to raise the plight of flood victims in the Parliament. Deuba inspected flood-affected areas of Laxmipur, Dhanari and Durga of Gadhimai Municipality and wards 1,2 and 5 of Bhagawati Rural Municipality and headquarters Gaur. Deuba was accompanied by NC leaders Bimalendra Nidhi, lawmakers and local level chiefs.
