Sher Bahadur Deuba has taken an early lead in the vote count.
According to Nepali Congress central office secretary Pradip Parajuli, Deuba has garnered 296 votes, Ram Chandra Paudel 230 and Krishna Prasad Sitaula 59.
Vote count begins for Nepali Congress president after midnight
KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress Election Committee began vote count for the party's new president after midnight.
Now, the results are expected by Monday morning.

As many as 3,148 party representatives had cast their votes for the new leadership of Nepali Congress in the party’s ongoing 13th national general convention, in Kathmandu, on Sunday.
The Committee would begin vote count for other positions only after deciding who won the presidential race.
Ram Chandra Paudel, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Krishna Prasad Sitaula have thrown their hats in the ring for the party's top position.
To win the elections, 50 per cent plus one vote of the total cast votes, i.e. 1775 are required. If none of the candidates bag mandatory 1775 votes, run-off elections will be held between top two contenders.
