Nepali Congress to continue anti-government protest: Gagan Thapa

DHANGADHI: Central member of main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Kumar Thapa said the party has staged demonstration in order to restore normalcy in the country which, because of the government, that has plunged into chaos.

Addressing an anti-government extensive protest meeting organised by NC Kailali in Dhangadhi today, Thapa said, "Since the beginning, we had been giving government creative assistance  while we also offered assistance during the crisis amid coronavirus pandemic, but now, we had to resort to staging a protest." He said the party will not give up the protests until the government falls back in track.

"The present government is strong but it has not done anything to strengthen the people," NC leader Thapa said and added that it has been spending much of its time in talking nonsense.

The NC leader accused the government of being irresponsible and further alleged that the government that promised to fight corruption is itself involved in the Wide-body scam.

Former Minister for Health and Population Thapa also criticised President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, whom he accused of being 'queen impostor'. Addressing the protest, Thapa made a satirical remark on President,"Your Majesty! Do not shine your eyes, move your hands forward, if you dare, compete in the elections in Kathmandu." Thapa accused that Bhandari could not bring dignity to the role of President. He criticised the president saying that she was disguised as neutral head of state while she is but a leader of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

Thapa elaborated that people in Sudurpaschim Province were in trouble as their expectations of change and development have not been fulfilled because of a powerless and naive chief minister (CM). "Pardon me, people here are in trouble because of the powerless and naive chief minister," He remarked and added, " It is heard in news that sanitisers were distributed with the initiative taken from Lekhraj Bhatta and Bhim Rawal in Sudurpaschim." He questioned, "What has the Province government done then?" He suggested Sudurpaschim's CM not to hold the federal system responsible for improper governance but to hold Prime Minister and ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) responsible.

NC Leaders Ram Janam Chaudhary, Tek Bahadur Raika and Sushila Mishra Bhatta also addressed the protest meeting chaired by NC Kailali Vice-president Prakash Bam.
