KATHMANDU, JANUARY 18
The Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok has issued a notice urging Nepali citizens to refrain from traveling to countries including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand on tourist or visit visas under the pretext of lucrative job offers.
The Embassy highlighted that Nepalis have been lured by promises of attractive job opportunities with various perks in companies, casinos, and digital marketing through social media advertisements. However, after arriving in these countries, many individuals have been forced into illegal activities and even held hostage.
The notice also pointed out that some individuals are being enticed to travel to Thailand on tourist visas with false promises of converting them into work visas either in Thailand or other countries. The Embassy reiterated that working on a tourist visa in any capacity is illegal.
Additionally, the Embassy emphasized that these countries are not approved for foreign employment by the Government of Nepal. Therefore, anyone involved in facilitating the travel of Nepali citizens to these countries for employment is engaging in illegal activities and is subject to legal action.
In light of these warnings, the Embassy has urged all Nepalis to avoid visiting these countries for work on tourist or visit visas. It further advised seeking accurate information from relevant embassies and government agencies before making travel plans.
