8591 more cases, 8,848 recoveries take active case tally to 115,806

KATHMANDU, MAY 22

Nepal's Covid caseload hurdled past the 500,000 mark on Sunday as it added 8591 more single day cases to the tally in the past 24 hours. The nationwide coronavirus infection count, as such, stands at 505,643.

Likewise, total fatalities from the highly contagious respiratory disease has climbed to 6153 as 129 more deaths were reported from across the country.

On the other hand, the recovery-daily reported cases ratio was almost at par today as 8848 people have recovered in the same period, after which the active caseload adds up to 115,806.

Antigen tests confirmed 389 positive infections in the past 24 hours indicating that a total of 8,980 cases from both RT-PCR and antigen tests were registered.

As many as 1,811 infections surfaced in the capital while Lalitpur reported 328 cases, and Bhaktapur 179 cases today, shifting the valley's total 24-hour figure to 2,318.

According to the health ministry, 20,105 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 19,357 were PCR tests while 748 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,897,503 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

383,684 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection so far. The recovery rate from the disease stands at 75.8 per cent.

Currently, there are 886 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Friday, Nepal's coronavirus case count had reached 497,050 with 8,407 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 166 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.4 million people have lost their lives to the disease.

Likewise, over 147 million people have recovered while more than 15 million cases are still active.
