KATHMANDU, APRIL 17

Nepal on Saturday reported 768 new cases of coronavirus infection from across the country. With this, the total nationwide infection count has advanced to 283,658.

Meanwhile, antigen tests confirmed 75 positive cases in the past 24 hours. As such, total infections from both the RT-PCR and antigen tests added up to 843 today.

Of the total cases that surfaced today, Kathmandu district holds the highest number of new infections -- 312 cases. Lalitpur reported 74 cases whereas nine new cases were reported from Bhaktapur.

Likewise, 226 people who were earlier infected with the virus are reported to have recovered in the past 24 hours as per the latest data provided by health ministry. As of today, 275,038 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate from the disease stands at 97 per cent.

Nepal's active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 5,545.

The nationwide death-toll has reached 3,075 with five Covid-related fatalities reported today.

According to the health ministry, 6,004 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 5,333 were PCR tests while 671 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,340,417 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

Currently, there are 74 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Friday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 282,890, with 836 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 140 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3 million people have lost their lives to the disease. Likewise, over 119 million people have recovered while more than 18 million cases are still active.
