KATHMANDU, MAY 31

Nepal reported 4,178 new cases of coronavirus infection from across the country in the past 24 hours. With this, the Covid-19 caseload has reached 561,302 on Monday.

The country has logged a total of 7,386 deaths since the initial outbreak in March last year. As many as 114 fatalities were reported today.

Nepal is witnessing steady decline in the number of daily cases of late. The single daily cases rose as high as 9317 on May 11 and remained around 8-9000 for a significant amount of time. ​​​​A gradual decline in cases is being observed since May 26 where 6677 cases had surfaced as against the 8387 cases reported on May 25.

Around 6,491 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 447,446.

On Sunday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 557,124 with 3,702 newly confirmed cases.

With fresh recoveries slightly more than the new infections of late, the active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 106,470.

Meanwhile, antigen tests confirmed 584 positive cases in the past 24 hours. As such, total infections from both the RT-PCR and antigen tests added up to 4,762.

There are 689 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal. So far, 79.7 per cent of COVID patients have recovered.

In the same time frame, 804 infections were reported in the capital city on while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur reported 176 and 113 cases respectively.

According to the health ministry, 17,480 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 15,055 were PCR tests while 2,425 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 3,057,424 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

Globally, over 171 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.5 million people have lost their lives to the disease.

Likewise, over 153 million people have recovered while more than 14 million cases are still active.
