Nepal’s embassy in US launches online application for MRP

Kathmandu, January 9

Embassy of Nepal in Washington DC, USA has launched online application for the Machine Readable Passport.

Nepal’s Ambassador to the US Arjun Karki launched the new-technology based application process, which is also known as the Live Enrollment System yesterday.

The high-tech system aims to make passport delivery service faster. According to Ambassador Karki, the LES would be set up at Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York shortly. Once the LES is set up, passport applicants can visit the Nepal’s Embassy in Washington DC and apply for passport online. The Kathmandu-based Department of Passport will receive the application directly.

The online system will reduce overall time for passport processing as there will be no need to dispatch passport forms from the USA to Nepal. This will reduce the time applicants’ need to wait to obtain or renew MRPs. The government has already started LESs at Nepal’s missions in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Department of Passport in Kathmandu.
