A new species of bird has been detected in Chitwan.

The new bird: 'Salne Bagedi' was detected in a Sisau tree near Shiva temple at Kumroj buffer zone in Chitwan National Park.

According to Coordinator of Nepali Ornithological Union, Bagmati, Basu Bidari, the bird species, found in the mountainous region, was detected for the first time in Chitwan. He said the bird might have migrated to the district due to dipping temperature and lack of food in the mountains.

Also the former chairperson of Bird Education Society, Chitwan, Bidari said ta team of ornithologist identified the species of the bird after photographers Chudamani Chaudhary and Prem Bamjan took its pictures.

The bird species is found at an altitude ranging from 2,440 to 3,050 metres above sea level.

Chair of the Bird Education Society, Chitwan, Ramesh Chaudhary, said that a pair of birds belonging to 'Salne' species was found in the course of monitoring.

With this, the number of birds belonging to Bagedi species, out of a total of 15 detected in Nepal, has reached 10 in Chitwan alone. These shy birds are found on grassland and in the surroundings of farmlands.

Mainly, these birds are found in European countries as well as Nepal, China and Afghanistan.
