Newly-elected municipal reps asked to step down

Parties expel dozens for contesting polls:

Kapilvastu, January 30:

The seven agitating political parties have warned all the newly nominated candidates to the Civic Council in Kapilvastu municipality to resign immediately. The candidates had received certificates verifying their elections on Sunday.

Issuing a joint statement today, the Unified Movement Coordination Committee, Kapilvastu, urged all the people in the district to socially boycott those directly or indirectly helping the civic polls.

A meet of the committee organised here today also called on the people to mark February 1 as a “Black Day”. The meeting also decided to break the prohibitory orders imposed in

certain areas of the district with the help of over 10,000 activists.

State Minister for Physical Planning and Construction Brijesh Kumar Gupta, District Development Committee (DDC) chairman Krishna Bahadur Choudhary, DDC vice-chairman Kalipad Sharma, RPP (Nationalist) district chairman Narayan Bahadur Singh, RPP (Kamal Thapa) district chairman Krishna Bahadur Khadka, newly nominated mayor Ram Das Gupta and deputy mayor Ram Dev Kandu are now facing social boycott in the district, the meet informed.

Central member of the Nepali Congress (Democratic) Dip Kumar Upadhyaya, central member of CPN-UML Radha Gyawali, UML district committee secretary Balram Adhikari, district secretary of NC(D) Rajesh Aryal, the Nepali Congress district secretary Ram Chandra Poudel, RPP district member Brij Gopal Gupta and Rabindra Thakur of Nepal Sadbhawana (Ananaddevi) were among the participants in the committee meeting.

Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the constituents of the seven agitating parties held in Rautahat today decided to expel a dozen political activists participating in the municipal polls.

The activists have been expelled from the general memberships their respective parties for supporting the autocratic step, the meet said.

Those expelled from various parties are: Abadh Bihari Shah, Jay Mangal Shah, Lalan Singh, Anil Kumar Thapa, Majhar Khan and Saraswoti Devi of the Nepali Congress; Shekh Islam and Ramananda Shah of the CPN-UML; Manoj Neupane and Kaushalya Devi of NC(D); Ram Binod Singh of the Nepal Samata Party (Anandi Devi); and Harish Mishra of Bam Morcha.

The meeting also decided to ask clarification of NC, Gaur Chairman Rajesh Gupta and to mark February 1 as a “Black Day”.

Meanwhile, the Makwanpur chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists has referred a general member of the federation, Narayan Sharma, to its central committee, for acting against the interests of the media body.

Sharma has filed his candidacy for the post of deputy mayor of Hetauda municipality.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Pratap Bista, the president of the

federations Makwanpur district chapter.
