NGOs’ call to protect children from riots

Kathmandu, April 14:

An alliance of nine government and non-government organisations working for children has urged the protesters and security forces to think of street children and child labourers during demonstrations and to keep them safe from riots, according to a statement issued by CWIN here today.

The alliance of the organisations has asked all the parties to the conflict to regularly monitor the presence of children in the ongoing demonstrations and curfew and also rescue, protect, rehabilitate the children.

Meanwhile, the Alliance Against Trafficking in Women and Children in Nepal in a statement condemned the government for excessive use of tear gas shells during protest programmes. The alliance of twenty organisations working for women and children rights has expressed its solidarity with the ongoing movement for democracy The National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal (NFDN) has also criticised the arrest of differently disabled people from Exhibition road for participating in a rally to express their solidarity with the ongoing movement for democracy.

The Federation has demanded the immediate release of the fund-collection team of the NFDN that was also arrested and kept at the National Stadium, Tripureshwor.
